Bioethanol: The Clean Fuel Behind Modern Fireplaces
Bioethanol is a clean-burning, plant-based fuel that’s gaining global popularity, especially as the heart of modern bioethanol fireplaces. But what exactly is it, and how is it made? Efficient, sustainable, and odor-free, bioethanol makes it possible to enjoy the ambiance of a fireplace without the need for a chimney, gas line, or complicated installation.

What Is Bioethanol?
Bioethanol is a renewable fuel derived from organic materials, often referred to as biomass. Over the past few years, it has become increasingly popular as a clean-burning fuel used in bioethanol fireplaces. But what exactly is it? Simply put, bioethanol is a form of high-purity alcohol produced in much the same way as traditional spirits. Today’s bioethanol is typically made from excess agricultural waste, materials that were once discarded are now transformed into an eco-friendly energy source, helping reduce environmental impact while offering a beautiful flame.

How Is Bioethanol Made?
The process begins with plant-based materials such as corn, sugarcane, hay, or even wood chips, anything rich in cellulose. These materials are first broken down using water and steam to create a pulp. Special enzymes are then added to convert the cellulose into sugars. Next, yeast and natural bacteria transform those sugars into ethanol (alcohol) and CO₂. The resulting liquid contains about 10% alcohol. To purify this, the mixture undergoes distillation, where the alcohol is evaporated, collected, and condensed into a highly concentrated fuel. Along the way, even by-products like CO₂ and organic pulp are repurposed for other industries, such as dry ice production and animal feed.

Why Purity Matters in Bioethanol Fuel?
The final step in creating fireplace-grade bioethanol is filtering and refining it to achieve a high level of purity, ideally 95% or more. Impure or watered-down bioethanol can cause soot, smoke, and even damage your fireplace. That’s why we only recommend using premium-grade bioethanol fuel. Our fuel is produced under strict quality standards, ensuring it’s CO₂-neutral, sustainable, and safe for indoor and outdoor use. With high efficiency and minimal environmental impact, it delivers a clean, vibrant flame and a cozy atmosphere, just as your Le Feu fireplace was designed to offer.

Important
To ensure optimal performance and a clean burn, it’s essential to use bioethanol with the highest possible purity, ideally 95% or more. Some lower-quality options on the market are diluted with water to reduce cost, but this can lead to unwanted side effects. Impure bioethanol may produce smoke, soot, and unpleasant odours, and it can even cause damage to your fireplace over time. For the best experience and to protect your investment, always choose premium-grade, high-purity bioethanol.
DANGER — FLAMMABLE. Do not smoke. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Keep away from flames and any source of sparks. Use approved bioethanol fuel only. Never refill while hot or when a flame is present; allow at least 30 minutes to cool. Never pour fuel onto a flame or hot burner. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Store tightly closed in original child-resistant container away from heat and open flames. In case of spill, wipe up immediately and allow vapours to dissipate before ignition. For first aid and full safety instructions, read the label and user manual.
