FAQ — Bioethanol Fuel
What is bioethanol fuel?
Bioethanol is a renewable, plant-based fuel made from fermented agricultural by-products. It burns cleanly, producing real flames without smoke, soot, or ash.
Is bioethanol safe for indoor use?
Yes. When used in a certified bioethanol fireplace and with proper ventilation, bioethanol burns cleanly and safely, releasing mainly heat, water vapour, and a small amount of CO₂—similar to burning a few candles.
Can Le Feu bioethanol be used in other fireplaces?
Yes. Le Feu bioethanol works with most brands of bioethanol fireplaces and burners. However, burn time and performance may vary depending on the appliance, and we cannot estimate consumption for non–Le Feu devices.
How long does bioethanol burn?
Le Feu bioethanol burns approximately 2–3 hours per litre with the damper fully open. Burn time varies based on burner design, airflow, temperature, and flame setting.
How much fuel should I use per ignition?
Do not exceed 1.5 L per ignition in Le Feu burners. Overfilling can result in unsafe flame behaviour and reduced performance.
Does bioethanol produce heat?
Yes. Bioethanol fireplaces create real flame warmth, similar to a small wood stove or electric fireplace. They are designed for ambience rather than whole-home heating.
Is bioethanol toxic to inhale?
No. Bioethanol is not classified as toxic by inhalation. However, you should avoid inhaling fumes from unburned fuel and always operate your fireplace with normal ventilation.
Does bioethanol produce odour?
High-quality bioethanol produces very low odour, mainly noticeable when lighting or extinguishing the flame. During operation, it burns cleanly.
Can I refill the burner while it’s still hot?
No. Never refill a hot or operating burner. Wait at least 30 minutes until the burner is fully cooled before adding more fuel.
What should I do if fuel spills?
Wipe up spills immediately and let the area dry completely before lighting the fireplace. Never ignite near spilled or evaporating fuel.
How should I store bioethanol?
- Store bottles upright in a cool, well-ventilated place.
- Keep away from heat sources, flames, or direct sunlight.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not store near other flammable liquids.
Is bioethanol environmentally friendly?
Yes. Bioethanol is made from renewable plant-based materials and burns without producing soot or harmful particulates, making it a cleaner alternative to wood, gas, or gel fuels.
Is shipping bioethanol considered hazardous?
Yes. Bioethanol is a Class 3 flammable liquid and must be shipped according to hazardous goods regulations. An adult must be present to receive the delivery.
